Candy Cane

Recipe Description

Clint likes whiskey, Coralee likes wine, and everyone likes candy canes and ice cream…since you can’t drink whiskey and wine all day, here’s one for us all! A holiday treat that shouldn’t raise too many eyebrows, the Candy Cane is low-alcohol and high-delicious!!

(And for you sticklers out there…yes, it sure does seem like a grasshopper, but if it’s not green it’s not a grasshopper!)

Ingredients

  • 3/4 ounce white creme de menthe
Tempus Fugit brand if at all possible...they make these traditional liqueurs with heirloom recipes...they are authentic and artisanal with none of the cloying artificiality that drove these classics out of fashion
  • 3/4 ounce creme de cacao
Tempus Fugit also makes a beautiful one of these and it's well worth compromising on the color, but if you want white-white use a clear white creme de cacao (really, it's not worth the sacrifice!)
  • 1/4 ounce heavy cream
  • 1 tiny candy cane
  • pinch red sugar sprinkles
I really like to microplane a single white chocolate chip over the top -- it looks like snow and adds to the texture, but for the color you might want to use the sugar

Preparation

Put a coupe or dessert glass in the freezer.

Combine liqueurs and cream in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously!

Service

Strain cocktail into chilled glass, hang candy cane off the rim and sprinkle colored sugar on top or microplane a white chocolate chip…this is lip-licking good!
