Cranberry Cinnamon Whiskey Sour

Recipe Description

This cocktail is fabulous! I loved the flavor of the original recipe but couldn’t get it to work because the cranberry syrup would gelatinize when it hit the ice in the glass. I was about to give up on the drink when I experimented using some of the fresh cranberry sauce I made for Thanksgiving and thinning it out with sugar and water after the fact.

This recipe makes 2-4 drinks depending on how big you like ’em!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cranberry simple syrup
  • 3/4 cup bourbon
Eagle Rare is a great choice
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
Trader Joe's Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice works even better than if you squeeze it at home--it's fresh but the sweetness is consistent, unlike when you do it at home from oranges.
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
rarely does one use both lemon and lime juice in a cocktail but here it puts everything in perfect balance.
  • 2-4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2-4 orange peels
  • 2-4 giant ice cubes

Preparation

To make the syrup for this drink, scoop out some of the jelly from fresh cranberry sauce and combine 1/3 cup jelly, 1/3 cup sugar, 1/3 cup water and microwave until sugar is dissolved, about a minute and a half, stirring once or twice. Strain. Cool.

Combine syrup, bourbon, orange juice, lime juice & lemon juice in a large shaker with ice. Shake thoroughly.

Service

Put a cinnamon stick, an orange peel and a giant ice cube in each of the double old fashioned glasses you are using. (Remember, this makes 2-4 drinks depending on your audience!)

Strain cocktail over cube & and say, “Wow. Just wow.”
