Poinsettia Cocktail

Recipe Description

My twist on a holiday classic, this drink can be made ahead in batches for parties.

This recipe makes four cocktails.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces Cointreau
  • 3 ounces vodka
I am not a vodka fan. The poinsettia and the bloody mary are pretty much the only times I use it...for sure use a very smooth vodka without a dominating or metallic aftertaste.
  • 8 ounces cranberry juice cocktail
  • 4 pieces orange twist
    Garnish is optional.
  • 1/2 bottle Champagne
Good champagne makes a good champagne cocktail.

Preparation

Put four champagne flutes in the freezer. Combine the vodka, Cointreau and cranberry juice in a shaker with ice and shake until cold.

To make ahead for a party, combine the vodka, Cointreau and cranberry juice in a pitcher and chill. This won’t dilute by shaking with ice, which in this case is a good thing. (Almost every other time, you want the ice to dilute while chilling the drink.)

Service

When ready to serve, divide the mixture evenly among the four glasses and top with about 3 oz champagne in each glass and garnish with a twist of orange or any festive garnish that makes sense–or don’t garnish at all!

For a non-alcoholic cocktail, simply fill half the glass with cranberry juice cocktail and top it off with seltzer, 7up or maybe even ginger ale.
